Jane Austen Challenge {check-in #4}

Photobucket
How is everyone doing?

I have heard from some of you about your progress and it sounds like a lot of Jane reading is getting done.

I am sad to report that I have not completed anything yet! {pretty bad for the host to not have read a single book yet, huh? *sigh*} On that note, however, I do have plans to read the two Beth Patillo books within the next month. {yay!} For some reason, and much to my surprise, I cannot get into Jane's personal works. I don't know if I am just not into that particular writing style like I thought I was or what, but I was honestly bored while trying to read Pride and Prejudice. {oh the horror!}

But, enough about me. How are you doing?

I have decided to include a linky with this check-in. You do not have to link-up, but if you feel inclined to write a post about your progress, you may link it up here. I thought it would be fun to comment on one anothers progress and get to know each other a little better!

  1. Well, I got to my first of my Jane Austen goals - The Dashwood Sisters Tell All

    http://www.readingtoknow.com/2011/03/dashwood-sisters-tell-all-by-beth.html

    Next up I'm going to try Sense & Sensibility. (And I confess to being bored the last time I tried reading Pride & Prejudice - which is why I'm going for S&S this time!)

    Thanks for hosting!

  2. Oh Carrie...I am glad to hear I am not the only one!! :)
    Cannot wait to start reading through the Beth Patillo books. Your reviews is what has prompted me to read them! ;)

  3. I had a hard time getting through Emma...I enjoyed it overall, but got bogged down at several points. So I chose Northanger Abbey this time around. It's shorter and I really enjoyed it!! You can read more in my update. Looking forward to your opinion of the Beth Patillo books...I have the first one sitting on my shelf waiting!

  4. Several years ago I discovered an "Austen Extra" in Powells in Portland. I got hooked! So I decided to embark on a year of nothing else. I read sequels, prequels, whatever was available. Then I reread the originals. Sometimes I thought I could do better than what I just spent time and money on! But also found some that were really good. This adventure has continued. I probably should start an AA group, Austen Anonymous! Just got Beth Patillo's Dashwood Sisters Tell All, can't wait to get started. So don't feel bad that you haven't gotten far. There's always another one so the stack just keeps stacking up!

  6. I'm reading the annotated Pride & Prejudice right now. It's my second read of P&P, and I'm getting WAY more out of it. If you struggle with Austen, you might try something like that? Not knowing much about Georgian hostory (myself), I missed a lot of the subtle nuances, in my first read. :-)

  7. I still haven't gotten to anything either. I REALLY need to make more time for reading so I can get to Pride and Prejudice (the first I want to read). Takes me awhile to get the hang of the writing, but once I'm used to it, I LOVE it!

  8. Don't feel bad; I'm hosting the U.S. Civil War Challenge this year and haven't read a single book for it yet!

    However, I have posted more reviews of Austen variations since the last check-in:

    What Would Mr. Darcy Do? by Abigail Reynolds

    Only Mr. Darcy Will Do by Kara Louise

  9. I have completely dropped the ball over the past couple of months! I am diving into Mansfield Park sometime this week, which will be the first Jane Austen full novel I have ever read. I'm excited!

    The Beth Patillo books were great reads, so I'm sure you will enjoy those! They are easy reads, so that might help jump start you again?

  10. I signed up for the challenge and still haven't read anything for it, but I still plan to!

  11. Well, I am so behind on things that the linky has expired! I am one book ahead of you though! For me there is something about "having" to read a book that makes me suddenly not want to read it (even though I am the one who assigned it to myself! How did I ever graduate from high school, much less college, is beyond me.). Anyway, my post about my one read is here - http://www.homeschoolmo.com/2011/10/jane-austen-challenge-update.html.

  12. Just finished Northanger Abbey, which I loved! Very funny! My review is at http://www.homeschoolmo.com/2011/10/jane-austen-challenge-update-2.html . Thanks again for hosting the challenge! I had to grit my teeth through Manchester Park, but I am a better person for it.

  13. Yea! I completed my goal! My final post is at http://www.homeschoolmo.com/2011/11/jane-austen-challengefinal-update.html . Did you ever get going on your reading? If you continue to struggle to get into her books, I highly recommend annotated versions.
