A Sons Love

Photobucket

"Mama, I sit on your lap?"
"Buddy, you have to wait a minute until I am finished feeding Heidi and then you can sit on my lap."

His tantrum begins.
My frustration at trying to please all three of them at the same time is getting the best of me and I let anger and stress come out as I yell at him to go to his room if he is going to cry.

My own hot tears roll down my cheeks. My little man. Still getting used to the transition of being the youngest and having all my attention, to being a big brother and having to share my attention even more.

He's not used to not being able to crawl into my lap and cuddle there whenever he wants.
To having to wait for a drink or a snack.
His cuddle space in mamas bed has now been taken over by his little sister and I know this has upset him the most.

As I have sat holding Heidi and getting used to meeting the needs of one more child, I have thought about how I can have to make time for those same special moments that Caleb and I shared. For those moments are just as precious to me as they are to him.

I need to take time during the day to just sit and cuddle him on the couch like we used to do.

I need to place Heidi back into her crib on some mornings so Caleb can cuddle in next to me for those few short minutes after daddy has left for the gym.

These are moments that we have shared since birth and I do not want to loose that closeness with him. We formed a bond, different than the one I have with Emma, from the day he was born and this bond, that has only strengthened over the years, is not something that I want to lose. There is just something about a mama and son bond that is so very sweet. And this little man of mine is a big hugger and a cuddler. I want to continue to nurture these precious attributes of his sweet personality. I never want him to change this about himself. For his daddy is much of the same - and I want some little girl to be as blessed as I am some day!

  1. Finding little moments for each child every day is like mining for hidden treasure. Sometimes I just find a small chip here or there...other ways I uncover a treasure trove of time! Covering all of it with prayer and know God gives us enough time for all of it...we just need to find it. Great post!

  2. I needed to read this today. Next week, we will be adding to our family and I worry about how my relationship with my soon to be oldest will be. Thankfully he's a bit older, and I'm hoping that will help with transition, but I only hope that I will remember to make time for "mommy-son" dates even if its for a couple minutes.

  3. Beautifully stated. And WHAT a challenge! I feel it myself. My oldest son is a cuddler (my only one!) and I have to intentionally take time out just to touch sometimes. It's hard to meet the needs of three little ones. Still learning! But it's fun.

  4. Being mama to three is so very hard. I would say it gets easier, so just hang in there, but that's not entirely true. It doesn't necessarily get easier, but it does get different. You should still hang in there, give yourself grace, and know that your best is enough :)

  5. He sounds so perfectly yummy. There is nothing like those boys!! (I have four.) There is a special bond between mamas and their boys. And, I loved that with each new child, the love expanded...didn't run out...it multiplies.

  6. This is wonderfully written. It's true that a mother's bond with her son is something special. You laid the ground work with your son and even if you have to shift your focus for a season, the bond will be there, mama. Grace and strength to you and thank you so much for sharing this in The Parent 'Hood!

  7. Guessing that's a balance I'll have to figure out someday, too. My little guy is quite the snuggler now and it would surely be a sad thing to lose. I know it can be done though! :)

  8. It sounds like you have the most beautiful bond! Nothing will break that, Transition is always a bumpy ride :)
Trying to balance the needs of everyone while also meeting your own once in a while, can be tricky.
BTW I have always loved the name Heidi so much.

  9. I still have just the one little kidlet, but I've watched my SIL with her soon-to-be-three kids and I see that it is hard. I hope I handle the change with the same grace the 2 of you show!

(Thanks for your sweet words on my Sailor Girl post, and for reading my blog. I am a new follower here with GFC, and I look forward to getting to know you better!)

  13. Play Bazaar This is important, because if you ever want to buy a house, at some point you need to start placing offers and making decisions. As long as you have thoroughly prepared yourself for buying a house, it is then important to rely on your Satta King instincts.
