The Story of Me!

For the next 12 weeks, I will be participating in Mommy's Piggytales Record Your Youth Challenge. Today is week one and the theme is: My Birth Story and How I Got My Name.

When I asked my mom to tell me the story of my birth, she giggled. "Amy," she said. "there really isn't much to tell." Hmm...I thought. "Please, elaborate, mom." Here is what she told me...

I am the oldest of two. I have a sister who is 3 1/2 years younger than me. My parents got married May 5th, 1979. My mom knew she always wanted a family, just not right away.

A few years later, when she found out she was pregnant with me, my father and her were ecstatic. They could not wait for a little bundle of joy to arrive and to have the sound of a babies laughter fill the walls of their home.

My due date was estimated May 5th, 1982...my parents anniversary! My mom states that she prayed for Jesus to have me come a few days early or late so she wouldn't have to share her anniversary with me! He answered her prayer, because I was born May 7th at 12:20 pm!

My mom arrived at the hospital at 5:00am with labor pains. The doctors administered the epidural at 7:00 am and I was born 5 hours later. She said she was joking around with the doctors and nurses after my delivery stating that "she would have 10 more kids if all her deliveries were this easy".

When my parents found out they were having a baby, they had a boys name and a girls name picked out right away. If I would have ended up a boy I would have been Matthew David {my dad's name}. Since I was a girl, the name they had picked was, Amy Marie {my name!}. I asked my mom how they chose this name and she simply said, "we just liked the way it sounds".

So, there you have it...me! The day...and days leading up to...when I entered into this world.

Please stop by Mommy's Piggytales to read how others came into this world!

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ~ Psalm 139:13-14

  1. That was cute about not wanting to share her anniversary. My nephew was born on my birthday which I didn't think would be that good at first but ended up being really special to me now. Great Post

  3. I prayed that both of my daughters would come early. Molly came 4 days early and Frances came 2 days early! (And I am so glad because I couldn't have been pregnant another day). Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to be in a group with you.

  6. I think it's always neat when parents pick out a name "just because we liked it"...rather than all the "family pressure" that seems to revolve around firstborns!
Enjoyed the pic's on your blog too!

  7. Well that is nice that her prayers were answered! My mom's weren't, I was born on halloween, much to her dismay!
Boy that was an easy labor!! I wish mine had been like that, though mine were easy enough I think (after the epidural) that I would still have 10 kids if my husband would agree to that (he is struggling with the idea of 3 someday for now though!).
Looking forward to hearing more of your story next week!

  8. Oh Amy Sweetie...
What a precious share. Yes God does so listen when we ask doesn't he? And he answered your sweet Moma and you were born on your own special day.

I love your name. (My niece's name was Amy. She was 33 years old when she passed away with cancer, October 23rd it will have been 1 year.) I am very drawn to Amy's.

I love your share of how you came into this world. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to reading next weeks. Oh and I love your header, you were a beautiful bride sweetie, so beautiful.

Have a great week, and see you on Week 2 next week. A group 1 follower, Country Wings in Phoenix.

Many hugs and much love, Sherry
