Our Amy Grant Fan Club! {third grade!}

Ever have a musical artist that you just loved?

Did you ever have your own, personal, fan club for that said artist?

Did you write letters to them asking them to please come to your city so you could see them in concert?

Well...I did!

After Sally* moved so very far away, Susie* and I became closer than ever. We became the very best of friends. We enjoyed the same tv shows, movies, books, and yes, even music!

Our all-time favorite music artist {well, at that time anyway} was Amy Grant. We loved her!

We knew the words to everyone of her songs and faithfully asked our parents to buy us the latest cassettes when they came out!

But, the greatest part was our fan club! Susie* lived in a beautiful, big, house. Beautiful, big, houses, come with beautiful, big, attics. {well...at least hers did!} I remember us wanting to have a fan club somewhere in her houe where her little brother would never find it. The attic sounded like the perfect place!

We taped posters and cassette covers on the walls. Had a radio/cassette player plugged in at all times so as soon as we came into the attic we could turn on anyone of her cassettes at anytime. We tried to dress like her; wear our hair like her. We were obsessed! {to say the least}

I will never forget how desperate we were the day we wrote our letter requesting Amy Grant to come to Pittsburgh so we could see her in concert. We wanted her to so very badly come to town so we could "meet" her in person.

I'm not sure if our request ever reached her hands {or the hands of her producers} since she never came, but the joy, hope, and excitement I remember feeling that day, that she just might come to "meet" us is something I have never forgotten!

I know she has had a rocky past, but I am not her judge. Her music was an inspiration to me. {and still is!} In the 80's, she provided good, christian, music for a young, christian, girl, like myself and Susie* to listen too!

Is it not amazing what we remember from our childhood?

Here are a few of Amy's songs that I enjoyed listening to as a child:

  1. Ooh I loved El Shadai when I was a youngster (still do!). I remember singing it to the top of my lungs during a concert at a youth retreat I went on when I was around 13.

    It is amazing what we remember from childhood! And good to reminisce I think! :)

  2. Wow, that was a cool memory. I still love her music. I love her new song better than a halleljah

  3. I still enjoy her music too. I only ever wrote one letter to one celebrity - teenage boy crush. It's funny because a relative that is 9 years younger than me thinks he is the "hottest thing ever" and now I'm like - yuck.

  4. Neat post with music links. It does bring back memories. I always enjoyed the upbeat "Sing Your Praise to the Lord!" You should send her a link to your blog I'll be she would like to read it! Maybe you will still get to meet her someday!

  5. I think it's so fun how you made the attic into a fan club. My friend had an attic that we made into a play house.

    I always picked the pretend name "Candace Coleen."

  6. =D I LOVED THIS POST! (It was linked at the bottom of your other post which I just read and I flew over here quick as a wink!)

    I absolutely LOVED Amy Grant when I was growing up. (I would have liked hanging out with you and Susie.)

    Amy Grant DID come to my town when I was 11 or 12. It was for her Lead Me On tour. I had not the funds to go to it (nor did my parents) but a friend of mine bought her daughter and I a ticket and took us both. Oh my stars. I STILL remember opening up the gift box with the tickets inside. I was positively BESIDE myself! I remember that concert very well. (Michael W. Smith was touring with her that year and he was the "no name" opener.)

    My car only plays cassette tapes and a few weeks ago I found some Amy Grant cassettes at Goodwill. So now whenever I am alone and driving I can listen to the Collection tape or Lead Me On. ;)

    haha! Love this!
