Jane Austen 2011 Challenge {first check-in}

Photobucket

It's our first check-in for the Jane Austen 2011 Challenge! How are you all doing? Read/watched anything yet?

I have been busy with reading the Emily books for the L.M. Montgomery challenge as well as my daily Bible in 90 Days readings to read any Jane yet. Planning on starting in February with Pride and Prejudice and going from there!

If you have read or watched anything Jane, I would love to hear your thoughts. Just leave a comment-no blog post is necessary.

Heads up: Our first giveaway will be sometime in March, so make sure to watch for that!

Until next time friends, Happy Reading!

  1. I STARTED Sense and Sensibility ... but decided I'm not quite ready to read it yet. I need something a little more fluffy first and the 2nd book in a series I read last year just came in and I am just about DYING to read it LOL

    Between reading to Gabriella (her eye is doing better! But not quite totally healed yet) and my Bible in 90 Days reading, I really don't have much time for much else to read ... but I'm gonna try to dig into Sense and Sensibility after I read my fluff book lol

  2. Not much yet here, I'm working on my L.M. Montgomery reading too! I've been doing a little bit of preparation though. I had a blog post written already, here it is: http://homewithpurpose.blogspot.com/2011/01/jane-austen-2011-reading-challenge.html

  4. I'm saving P&P for last - the best for last! :o) I decided to bookend with my two favorites, so I began with S&S.

    Here's what I posted on Kara's blog:
    I'm reading Sense and Sensibility and loving it! I forgot how great Austen's writing is. I also picked up one of the movie versions at the library (an early 80s version - corny sound & low quality, but good script), and have begun watching it. I've put several other versions in my Netflix queue as well. :o)

    I'd like to read something about Jane some time this year, but will have to figure out the best books on that topic. Still not sure about the inspired by Jane stuff, but if something sounds great then I might check it out. :o)

    One thing that's interesting to me in reading S&S are the similarities of some of the characters to characters in her other books. Willoughby seems to be a cross between Wickham (P&P) and Frank Churchill (Emma). The family at Barton reminds me of the silliness of some in the Bennett family. It's fun!

  5. I've started reading "Sense and Sensibility". I'm on volume I chapter X which is where Willoughby comes into the picture. Marianne says about him, "That is what I like; that is what a young man ought to be. Whatever his pursuits, his eagerness in them should know no moderation, and leave in him no sense of fatigue." Poor Elinor! I know she was looking straight at you when she said that. There's nothing worse than a know it all. ;)
    I've also put a hold at the library on the dvd of the newest version of this book from the BBC which I have never seen. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

  8. I just finished Minatures and Morals; the Christian novels of Jane Austen by Peter J. Leithart, which is a really good book and helps people understand what makes Jane Austen's books so good.
