When I started seeing all the reading challenges popping up on Twitter over the past month, I, of course, couldn't resist participating in a few of them. {check out my sidebar to see which one(s) I chose.} But, one challenge that I never saw come up was a Jane Austen challenge.
I, personally, love anything Jane. Have I read all of her books? No, which is another reason why I decided to host this challenge.
Starting January 1, 2011, I will be hosting a Jane Austen Challenge here at A Faithful Journey. I am so excited about this!
The rules of this challenge are easy and as follows:
- Starts January 1, 2011 and ends December 31, 2011
- Can be any Jane Austen published novel or a novel inspired by one of her works.
- Read as many or as little as you like. There are no "limits" to this challenge.
- I'm planning on having monthly check-ins where you can link-up letting us know how you are doing in your initial goals for the challenge. {thinking of doing this on Fridays, but at the moment this is tentative}
- Hoping to have prizes offered along the way for those who stick with it. {details are still being worked out for this as well}
- Any movies inspired by her novels are welcomed too!
- You do not need to have a blog to join in on all the reading fun!
- Have fun and get as much of Jane in 2011 as you possibly can!
The titles I am hoping to have read by the end of 2011 are all six of Jane's published works as well as a few inspired novels such as Jane Austen Ruined My Life and Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart, Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict, Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict, and Becoming Jane Austen.
Looking forward to a fun year reading some classics and not so classics together with all of you!

Hello, I am a new follower via Ifellowship. You have a lovely blog and I'm super excited about the challenge!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I have read a set of inspired books that my husband bought me for Christmas a few years back. I am in on this one! My fave P&P movie is the newest one. Just love it!
ReplyDeleteOoh..Hmm...Ok, let me think about this. I'm starting my Lucy Maud Montgomery challenge in January and I know that'll be my focus for a next little bit. But I have been wanting to re-read some Austen and since you are giving us a whole year to participate...that sounds workable. ;D

I am going to consider joining this challenge. I'm not sure yet. I have read a lot of her books, but I may spend more time reading books inspired by her.

Should we post as we finish a title or wait until the end of a month to post?

Amy, it's March, but I just saw this and would love to participate! I too and enamored of all things Miss Austen. :) In fact for last crop, we had chick flick night and watched Emma and Sense & Sensibility! Fun night.
ReplyDeleteAlways,

Has anyone completed any goals toward this reading challenge?
I did! I finished reading Emma in early March. It is the second Jane Austen title I have read. The other title I've read is Pride and Prejudice. I loved Pride and Prejudice and very much enjoyed reading Emma.
I wonder which title I will choose to read next...
I am so glad I know about this challenge!
Hello, I am a new follower.I love to join your challenge.
ReplyDeleteCan't stop myself to join your challenge..

I read Pride and Prejudice in February of 2010. Living in England convinced me I'd probably love her writing; and I do!
ReplyDeleteI finished reading Emma in March 2011.
I am reading/listening to Northanger Abbey right now.
I would like to read at least one more Jane Austen title during 2011.
