Classroom, Home, or No-School?

Photobucket

My daughter turned four earlier this year. Since then, the topic of discussion on a regular basis is what we are going to do about school next year. {we are skipping out on pre-school this year and just starting into kindergarten next fall. one of the local libraries offers a free program that helps prepare children for kindergarten that I am planning on taking my daughter to!}

Growing up, I attended a private Christian school from kindergarten through 12th grade. My husband also attended a private school, but only until 6th grade. We have both agreed, early on, that a private christian education was what we were hoping to give to our children. But, it can become pretty expensive. So, we have also been exploring our other options.

I never realized just how many other options there were. Homeschool, cyber school, public school, and no schooling at all! It's a bit overwhelming!

Obviously, we need to decide what is the best option for us; for our children. But, it got me to thinking; How do you do school? Or, if your children are young like mine and not yet in school, how are you planning on doing school?

I appreciate any and all info and ideas you have to offer!

  1. We never thought about homeschooling until our kids were in public school. After a few years of that, our minds were set. We {mostly I} fought it, and now I wish we had done it sooner. Good luck with your decision!

  2. Home schooling is our natural choice because my husband and I were both raised as home schoolers. (I went to public and private both in my younger years but my parents started home schooling my brother and I when I was in 3rd grade.) It's all we've known and we loved it!

  3. Hey friend! We are starting to homeschool Sophie in preschool this year. Techincally I've bene homeschooling her for about a year, but I'm going to be intential about it now.

    Private school is not an option for us. The local school system is very good - but when I thought about how many hours the girls would be away from home it made me sad - and I'm not ready to send them off.

    So, we are going to try schooling at home for a year and see how we do!

  4. After your comment on my post this morning, I came to find what you had written about schooling!

    I also went to a Christian school growing up and really enjoyed the experience. While our two children have also enjoyed their Christian school experience, we just felt that the Lord touched our hearts about homeschooling this year.

    Looking forward to seeing how it works - at my home and at yours!

    Hope you have a great week!

  5. We have homeschooled for two years already, and have just begun our third. My dh and I both attended public school, and I also attended private school for a couple of years. In addition to this, both my dh and I have taught in public school!

    Homeschooling has been a real blessing (if hard at times) in our life, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to do it!

  6. We are going on our 5th year of homeschooling, and we love it. I did have to put my kids in ps for a few years due to health problems, but God blessed us with the most Christian public school I had ever encountered. My kids are going into a mixture of 8th and 9th grade this year, finishing up 8th first semester and headed into highschool. I wouldn't have it any other way.
