On Learning Something New

For those of you who may not know...or haven't been able to tell...I enjoy being crafty! I love making things with my hands. Sewing and knitting have always been high on my list, but I am so happy to say that quilting as well as hand embroidery have been added to that very same list as well!

I recently taught myself to hand embroider. There really is nothing to it and I believe anyone who wanted to do it, could! I find it relaxing and the projects are usually rather quick. I tend to enjoy projects more when the end result can be reached in a day or two. {how I ever got to love knitting and quilting, well I may just never know!}

I did some searching online of different stitches and patterns and came across a wonderful embroidery website called Sublime Stitching! You must click and visit that site...it is awesome and so fun! I immediately ordered myself some patterns as well as the ultimate embroidery kit. I was soo giddy with anticipation for them to arrive. {yeah, yeah...I am bit nerdy! so what! (:}

This is what I ended up making...my very first embroidery project!

It was fun to do and very easy. Also, it is a great way to use up some fabric scraps! I didn't experience too much with stitches, but for my first attempt I am pretty pleased with it! {for those of you wondering what this is, it is an embroidered pin cushion made into a pin cushion! cute, eh!?}

I have many ideas of what to do next. Framed embroidery for my kids room using this and this pattern(s). A cute framed piece using this pattern for myself. Oh...the possibilities are really endless!

What I would eventually like to do is make a few embroidered squares to add to a quilt one day...but that is going to be a long day away!

Have you learned anything new this summer?

I am in no way being compensated for mentioning the above links. I just happen to really like that shop and wanted to pass the awesomeness of it onto all of you! :)

  1. I am slowly teaching myself to read crochet patterns. I've been crocheting for years, but always simple blankets and scarves, so now I'm trying to branch out a bit. I'm also participating in friendship bracelet swap so I've had to learn to make those. I never went to camp so I never learned before! LOL!

  2. That is ADORABLE!! I used to do crosstich, but once I picked up scrapbooking I haven't picked up embroidery thread since. Unless it's to put it on a layout :) LOL!

    I have learned more sewing techniques this summer, which I am super thrilled about!!
